Superhero Valentine's Day Cards
I know I’m a little late to post these awesome Valentine’s day cards. I figure that you can use this idea next year, or adapt the card for another special occasion. Better late than never, right? These personalized cards were super simple to throw together and provides a handmade touch that says you took time to be creative and thoughtful. You don’t need to go over the top to make an impact. In the amount of time it would take you to go to the store and buy mass produced cards, you can simply print these out for a unique take on the traditional!
What You Need:
Camera
Photo editing software (not necessary)
Printer or access to a printer
Superhero themed outfit
Superhero gift/treat/mask
Hole punch
Ribbons
Scissors
How To:
Take a picture of your child wearing their choice of superhero outfit
Be sure to take the photo in good lighting.
Take the photo using as plain of a background possible. This will make editing easier.
I used a large white blanket taped to the wall as a backdrop.
Take the photo in good lighting. Ideally, outside with natural light but not direct sunlight.
Transfer the photo onto your computer
Open the photo in an editor of your choice
We used MS-Paint, but you could also use Adobe Photoshop or any number of online tools found via Google.
Edit the photo to create a transparent image or edit the photo to create the white background
Remove all of the background.
Try to get as close to your child’s outline when editing.
Or, using photo editing adjust your picture to create a seamless background.
Use an editor to smooth your background then play with the settings, mostly bringing up the exposure to create the stark white background you see in my example.
This is not necessary, if you would like to print the pictures with whatever background you choose, that works too.
Add text to your picture
Maelle’s: Thanks for being a SUPER-friend, Valentine!
Linden’s: I’ve got you in my web, Valentine!
Thanks for being a SUPER-friend would be a great saying for any occasion - Birthday grab bags, holiday cards, or valentine’s cards.
Print the final product
Have your child write names or messages on the back if they are able
Hole punch the pictures
Attach your picture to the masks through the hole punch using a ribbon
You can purchase the superhero masks on Amazon. They were an absolute hit amongst both Linden and Maelle’s friends.
If you choose not to use the masks you don’t need to add anything or can add a simple treat, sticker, or tattoo.
If you prefer not to do any photo editing you can forgo that process and just print the picture of your child wearing their superhero attire as is. Add to the theme by taking the photo in front of a nice setting or backdrop to eliminate all editing. You don’t even need to add text on a computer. Simply have your child write directly on the pictures or write onto white labels and stick them onto the pictures.
