Interview With Maelle (6y 8m)
Below is an interview with my daughter. Her answers are verbatim - I did not interrupt her, ask her any clarifying questions, or prompt her for further details. Follow this link to see her answers from last year. I hope to repeat this interview at least once a year to see how her answers develop as she ages.
Where do you live? [Says full home address] in Calgary, Alberta.
How old are you? 6 and a half.
What is your favourite food? I like s’more pancakes because they have marshmallows and chocolate on them. Mmmm!
What is your favourite animal? A bunny because it is soft and furry and cute.
What makes you happy? My family and friends because they are the most important thing in the world. My family gives me food, water, a home and love.
What makes you sad? That I don’t get to do as much because of Covid. I won’t be able to meet my new cousin right away because of it. I wish there was no such thing as Covid and we could live how we used to.
What makes you laugh? My daddy when he tells me a funny joke. Also, my brother because he’s dramatic like when he pretends to fall down by himself.
What is love? When you show love for others you are caring for them. It’s a feeling and it’s hugging and kissing. It feels nice and it warms your heart and it puts you in a happy mood.
What are you really good at? Gymnastics. I got my first kip-up on the bar and I like to learn new skills all the time. Also swimming because I have learned all the strokes and can stay under the water for a long time.
What are you not so good at? I am still working on a lot of skills at gymnastics. There is always a new skill to get better at.
What do you want to be when you grow up? I want to be a veterinarian because I want to help animals and I want to see my favourite animal because I don’t have a pet bunny. Also, I might want to be a teacher because I like helping others to learn things they don’t know. Also, I want to go to the Olympics for gymnastics.
What does your Daddy do for work? Daddy is a consultant which means he helps people do better at their jobs.
What does your Mommy do for work? My mommy takes care of us, gives us food, makes sure we’re healthy, makes sure we get to places at the right time. She helps us learn and does all of the house chores. She used to be a teacher and taught kindergarten.
What is one thing your Daddy always says? Be kind to your brother.
What is one thing your Mommy always says? What makes me beautiful is that I am kind.
Where is your favourite place to be? In Vancouver with Auntie because I love her and she’s my favourite person.
If you could do anything right now, what would you want to do? I would go to Vancouver so I could meet my new baby cousin because she is coming any day now.
What should your brother know? I will always protect you and be here for you. Don’t be worried and I’ll keep you safe. If mommy and daddy aren’t around I will take care of you.
What is your favourite thing to play? I like playing skip rope and games like Sequence and Magic Labyrinth with my family.
What is the most special thing you own? My brother and my family because they are all I need and they give me everything.
